addressed to a number of fellow students/sufferers/friends/family that helped me through my first year in college
Once upon a time a silly girl named Pho got into UCLA. Before starting off the school year she had no expectations of what the college experience would be like. Within a week of the fateful day of September 27th however, she found it fabulously fun to meet new friends and hang out with them all the time. Her and her new friends soon found themselves spending their days in late-night cram sessions, feeding pangs of hunger with food scored from puzzles just as the midnight bells tolled, frantically rushing to finish birthday preparations and hoping to effectively pull off surprise visits, ‘swiping’ each other’s bruin and room cards, enjoying the high of an almost daily fellowship hopping (sometimes even hopping to more than one in a day), calling up each other up in hopes of be able to catch lunch or dinner around vastly conflicting class schedules, nabbing free UCLA tattoos and applying them to weird places, recording every experience with the ever available Pentax, Canon, or Sony, making the long trek to Westwood for that ever illusive mint-choco ice-cream sandwich, settling for Haagen-Dazs when the hike to Westwood seems way to killer, giving Naomi’s desk a makeover and spreading the blood, got soymilk?, getting locked in the Botanical Gardens, discovering the open gate that was there all along, acquiring a reputation for being late, whether it was to class or ICA, bang! bang! you’re dead!, racking our brains in an attempt to unravel the mysteries of the Daily Bruin crossword, getting a cerebral combustion from the doing the prior and turning to oneacross.com for help, playing the daily name game, gamecube vs. studying, and sharing our life stories and struggles, talking from late-night to early morning.
My first quarter at LA…peppered with mistakes…plenty of lost sleep…but I wouldn’t have spent it any differently. Thanks so much for appearing in my life, driving me crazy with your last minute essays, listening to me rant, trusting me, and generally just being there for me. I love you guys.
